Wemyss Firs - The History
Wemyss Firs has a long history with Scouting. It was first used as a training centre for the Wood Badge Training Scheme for leaders in 1921 and training continued at the site until 1939. SHQ was based there from 1925 until 1945. The last training course (69th) was held in August 1939, then training was abandoned with the outbreak of World War II. After the war, SHQ and Adult Training moved from Wemyss Firs to Fordell Firs.
A lease was set up between Kirkcaldy District Scout Council and Captain Michael Wemyss for the use of the current site as a Scout campsite in 1986.
In 2014, we were offered the opportunity of a new modular building and have invested heavily in this fantastic new facility at the site. The new building has replaced the two timber huts that were previously at the site and incorporates a kitchen, dining room, activity room and toilets all in one building.
